Priorities

Melani Buchanan Farmer is running to be your next City Councilor—because Albuquerque needs experienced, values-driven leadership that delivers. Born and raised here, Melani brings a deep understanding of our community and a proven ability to build partnerships, solve problems, and get things done.

Her priorities are to:

✔ Reduce Crime
Invest in data-driven tools like ShotSpotter, speed cameras, and security systems for local businesses, while fully funding public safety—including police, fire, and the Albuquerque Community Safety (ACS) team. Ensure violent offenders face swift and certain consequences.

✔ Tackle Homelessness & Expand Housing
Advocate for consistent, results-driven strategies to directly confront homelessness. Strengthen city programs for mental health care, addiction treatment, and transitional housing. Invest in public solutions and partner with the private sector to make housing more affordable and accessible for all.

✔ Grow Our Local Economy
Support small businesses and create more good-paying jobs. Prioritize redevelopment along the East Central/Route 66 corridor to improve safety and drive economic growth. Make East Central a true destination—especially as we celebrate its centennial. Partner with the city to purchase and revitalize blighted properties.

✔ Invest in Families & Youth
Fully fund the city’s youth programs and providers, including Head Start, summer, and after-school programs. Expand before- and after-school opportunities to support kids and teens, strengthen families, and prevent negative outcomes.
